The Orchestra´s first concert is planned for October 2nd! Besides rehearsing for the concert, we will be recording A-HOPE´s first cd.

Ashwin and I were sitting in front of our open calendars, a couple of days ago, thousands of miles away from each other, trying to figure all this out. How many days and how many hours do the members of the Orchestra have for rehearsing? Just how many do we need? What time do people get up in the morning? What time do they eat? What days do they have off their regular jobs?

Somehow we managed to come up with a schedule for rehearsals and studio time, at least on paper.

Today, we receive an email from Sonia Deotto asking us to take into account that the children in the Orchestra will be having exams in school until de 20th of September.

I think that in order to have a more realistic idea of what all of us need to make this work, I would have to be in Ahemdabad right now. We would have to be meeting face to face and getting to know each other. We would have to be making music together, in person. Music would be the result of such a "hands-on" connection.

All my life, this has been the only way I have known to make music.

Still, I feel that music is precisely what we are making now... 12 devotional songs from 12 different religious communities: complex, demanding, bewildering, interfaith, international, multicultural, multicolored, multinominal music!

Amongst all this wondrous diversity, a single jewel shines clearly in the center. Devotion is its name.

¡El primer concierto de la Orquesta está planeado para el 2 de octubre! Además de ensayar para el concierto, estaremos grabando el primer cd the A-HOPE.

Ashwin y yo estábamos sentados, hace un par de días, a miles de kilómetros de distancia uno de otro, frente a nuestros calendarios, tratando de resolver esto. ¿Cuántos días y cuántas horas tienen los miembros de la Orquesta para ensayar? ¿Cuántos necesitaremos? ¿A qué hora se levanta la gente por la mañana? ¿A qué hora comen? ¿Cuáles son los días que tiene libres en sus trabajos?

De algún modo, logramos agendar ensayos y tiempo de grabación en el estudio, al menos en papel. Hoy recibimos un correo electrónico de Sonia Deotto, pidiéndonos tomar en cuenta que los niños y niñas de la Orquesta estarán en exámenes hasta el 20 de septiembre.

Yo pienso que para tener una idea más realista de lo que todos necesitamos para que esto funcione, tendría que estar en Ahmedabad ahora. Tendríamos que estar encontrándonos frente a frente y conociéndonos mejor. Tendríamos que estar haciendo música juntos, en persona. La música vendría a ser el resultado de semejante conexión directa.

Esa es la única manera de hacer música que he conocido en la vida, hasta ahora.

Sin embargo, me parece que música es precisamente lo que estamos haciendo ahora mismo... 12 canciones devocionales de 12 comunidades religiosas distintas: ¡música compleja, demandante, asombrosa, interreligiosa, multicultural, multicolor, multinominal!

En el centro de toda esta maravillosa diversidad resplandece claramente una joya única. Su nombre es devoción.
