Tameme

Tameme: A word that comes from the ancient náhuatl. It means "the one who carries something on his back". It was the name given to those who carried merchandise and all sorts of goods by foot, walking and running from one end of the Aztec Empire to the other.
Here is my friend Tariq, helping me pack some of the traditional Mexican musical instruments that I am carrying with me to Ahmedabad.
In the case of traditional musical instruments that come and go, from one country, from one culture to the other, it seems to me that there is so much more that travels through them than meets the eye... Perhaps a world, a memory, something of the essence of a certain group of people, a piece of time... something of the light that radiates from a nation´s common soul...

Tameme: Una palabra que proviene del antiguo náhuatl. Quiere decir: "aquél que lleva algo sobre sus espaldas". Ese era el nombre que se utilizaba para designar a quienes transportaban mercancías y toda clase de bienes a pie, caminando y corriendo a lo largo y ancho del imperio azteca.
Aquí aparece mi amigo Tariq, ayudándome a empacar algunos de los instrumentos musicales tradicionales mexicanos, que llevaré conmigo a Ahmedabad.
En el caso de los instrumentos musicales tradicionales que se trasladan de un país a otro, de una cultura a otra, me parece que hay tanto más que viaja en ellos, de lo que se ve a simple vista... Tal vez un mundo, una memoria, algo de la esencia de cierto grupo de personas, un pedazo de tiempo... algo de la luz que irradia desde el alma común de una nación...
